If I carelessly put the lid down
upside down
on the table
and it rocks back and forth
and back, how long can we keep going?
How long do we have
if we have till it stops
and I have to put the lid
where it belongs again

I'll use anything in any way
it wasn't meant to be used

But books I like to use
for everything and anything
they were made for
like leveling tables
and filling out shelves
as well as what they weren't made for
like soaking circular coffee stains
and reading
the spines
till they can't be read no more

If I carefully board my windows up
it's because I think they have been looked through
far too often
And if I recklessly ask for more
Ask how long can we keep going?
How long do we have till it stops
if we have what we have
when the sun comes up
when the morning comes
But I'll use the morning
the way it wasn't meant to be used
And I'll use the night
If I quietly put the lid down
and go out
to where it doesn't belong
